EU COUNTRIES DO NOT WANT TO ESTABLISH CONTROL CENTRES FOR MIGRANTS

None of the EU member states expressed a desire to build a control centre for migrants on their territory, states a diplomatic source in Brussels. “The EU members have not agreed to host the control centre,” said the official, commenting on the discussions on the migration problem on the margins of the two-day informal EU summit in Salzburg.

In July, the European Commission promulgated the plan of creation of the centres of control of migrants and “platform of landing” rescued in the Mediterranean Sea. Moreover, the conclusions on migration issue, approved by the EU leaders at the summit in Brussels in June, envisage strengthening measures aimed at restricting the entry of illegal immigrants into the European Union, combating traffic organizers, establishing migration control centres, and returning illicit migrants to the countries from which they left.
The summit recognized that secondary migration within the EU could create risks for the regulation of the Schengen zone and called on the EU countries to take measures to counter such movements of migrants within European borders.
