According to Medecins Sans Frontieres, around 100 migrants died as a result of the crash of two inflatable boats off the coast of Libya. As stated in the report, all victims are residents of Africa.
On September 1, two rubber boats sailed from the Libyan coast, and each had over 160 people. One of the boats’ engine refused, the second one continued to move, but soon it began to be blown away. So, only 276 migrants were rescued, and they were taken to the port city of Khoms.
It should be noted that today Europe is experiencing the most serious migration crisis primarily due to many armed conflicts and economic problems in the countries of Africa and the Middle East. According to the International Organization for Migration, from the beginning of 2018 to September 5, the number of migrants who arrived by sea to Europe amounted to almost 72,000 people, 1565 people died in the Mediterranean. During the same period of 2017, more than 125 thousand people came to the European shores, 2561 migrants drowned.
