NEW DRUG FOR EBOLA OUTBREAK IN CONGO

Congo started using an experimental drug to fight Ebola virus, reports Actualite. The drug mAB114 was developed by Jean-Jacques Muyembe, a scientist, who survived Ebola in Kikwit in 1995.

“Thus, mAB114 became the first treatment against the virus, which will be used in connection with the active epidemic of Ebola,” the Ministry of Health Affairs of Congo said. Earlier, it was reported that the number of people infected with the deadly virus reached 115 people in the country. Moreover, the World Health Organization announced a new outbreak of Ebola fever in eastern Congo since the beginning of August. It should also be noted that Veronika Skvortsova, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, stated that Russia is ready, if necessary, to render assistance to Congo in the fight against Ebola.

Disease caused by the Ebola virus is an acute viral infection that affects people and some types of animals. Ebola’s epidemic in West Africa has mainly affected three countries: Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
